Highlights from this past weekend!
Stockyards Championship Rodeo
March 31 & April 1
The Stockyards Championship Rodeo drew some of the biggest names in professional rodeo this past weekend in the tie-down roping and the times reflected the skill level. Marcos Costa had the fastest run of the weekend with a sizzling 7.94 to win Saturday’s tie-down roping and $314.71. Costa was last year’s runner-up to the world championship and is currently ranked fourth in the world standings. Kadrion Richards from Venus was the winnerFriday night with a 9.43 run, earning $174.84.
Taylor Dign from Tolar won Friday’s breakaway roping with a 3.61, paying her $291.40. Tracy Keller from Brookston won first and $291.40 Saturdaynight with a 2.86.
Dale Martin and Colt Baldwin have been among the most consistent team ropers in 2017 and took the win Friday night with a 6.27 effort, earning them each $366.96. Saturday night’s team roping was a two-header and Ivan Holliday from Poplarville, MS., and Cord Carpenter from Brock caught their steers in a combined time of 25.42 to win the event. The win was worth $244.64 per man.
Emma Chapman from Granbury had the fastest run of the weekend to win Saturday night’s barrel racing with a 14.15, paying her $419.62. Tami Semas from Brock won Friday’s barrel racing and $419.62 with a 14.38.
In the bronc riding events, Kody Weger from Aubrey rode Copper Canyon to win the saddle bronc riding with 69 points and $169.20. Shane Reynolds from Forestburg won the ranch bronc riding and $169.20 with 72 points on Texas Star.
Daniel Keeping from Stephenville is riding a hot streak in the bull riding. He won the March bull riding finals last weekend and pocketed $2,000. He also won Friday night’s bull riding and $300 with an impressive 85-point performance on Jalapeno. There were no qualified rides Saturday night which means the prize money from Saturday rolls over to this Friday and $1,000 will be on the line.
This weekend Stockyards Championship Rodeo is only Friday night and the Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull riding will be Saturday night. Also this weekend, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District will host the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame 2017 Rodeo Reunion and Induction. Festivities kick off with a golf tournament Thursday, April 6; open house and reception Friday, April 7 at the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Cowtown Coliseum, plus Stockyards Championship Rodeo that night.
